Together we can create a brighter future for students in Sumner County!
The Sumner County DARE is dedicated to teaching students everywhere to respect themselves and others by living free from violence, substance abuse, and other dangerous behaviors to become better citizens in the world. We encourage students to make a difference in the community by being positive role models for the younger generations and volunteering in their community.
DARE students are learning how to engage and serve their communities in meaningful ways. These experiences help DARE students develop important life skills, including leadership, empathy, and teamwork while fostering a sense of responsibility and civic duty.
DARE students are learning the importance of showing appreciation to first responders for their bravery and selflessness. Through writing heartfelt letters, they express gratitude for the hard work and sacrifices these heroes make to keep their communities safe. By thanking firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and other emergency personnel, students are developing a deeper sense of empathy and respect for those who serve and protect others every day. This act of appreciation helps strengthen the bond between students and the heroes who keep them safe.
Collaborating with Organizations like Feed Sumner: DARE students are also working alongside local organizations, such as Feed Sumner, to combat food insecurity in their community. By volunteering at food banks or organizing food drives, students not only contribute to a vital cause but also learn the importance of teamwork and how to address the needs of their neighbors.
DARE students are partnering with Sumner County Deputies to help combat drug misuse by organizing a drug take-back event. This initiative allows residents to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medications, reducing the risk of these drugs being misused or ending up on the streets. The program aims to promote community safety and educate students and the public on the dangers of drug abuse, while also providing a secure way to eliminate potential hazards in homes.
Students in Sumner County, particularly those participating in the D.A.R.E. program, are finding meaningful ways to get involved with their local churches to help their community. These students volunteered their time to help feed first responders with Long Hollow and IGY6 Ministries. Through various church-sponsored initiatives, these students are learning the value of service and leadership while reinforcing the lessons from their D.A.R.E. program about making positive choices and resisting drugs and peer pressure.
